This update also contains a snippet from After Dark with Donnie Sutherland, recorded on November 29th 1983, and transmitted by the Seven network on February 11th 1984. In 2008 I got contacted by a friend who had met Donnie and during a chat Donnie mentioned he had some episodes of this show “on small tapes”. Upon chatting to this friend, I found out the tapes were betamax format and unfortunately, Donnie didn’t have a betamax deck to play and/or transfer them to DVD with.

Frankster to the rescue! My friend reported back to Donnie I had a machine and could do his transfers, and within days I received about 20 to 25 betamax tapes containing After Dark! I spent a couple of months dubbing them to DVD for him and from what I heard he was most appreciative of it. I’m so glad I was the one that saved Donnie’s tapes! Happy to say most if not all were in great nick for their age too.

Since then that same friend has setup a Youtube page with some of the contents of those transfers and has been given permission by Donnie to do so. I’m sure he won’t mind me putting up a few snippets of it here – after all I *did* do the transfer work. So down the bottom of this update is just one 90 second cut. Enjoy!

Regarding the “Dr. Dan” triple M theme…

The excerpt that Dr. Dan and Triple M used happens between 3:06 and 3:35 into the Mike Batt song “Introduction (Journey of a fool)”. Only about 30 seconds long. This was released in 1979, and mentions have been made of since, however:

Dr. Dan did a REMAKE. Slash did a REMAKE. (I’m sure Def FX did one…? The version played on The Rock Factory from 1998 anyway).

These towers seem to be scattered all around the site, and after checking things out against google earth and the info of where each transmitter was located from ACMA publications, I set out with iPhone in tow (with trusty 3 megapixel camera on board) wanting to get a few photos.

It’s a bit of a hike and so far I got the equivalent of one photo but I was amazed at its quality and I thought I should share it with you. The tower in this photo is situated not far from 15 Hill Rd down there and belongs to 2KY/Sky Sports Radio. I had my AM walkman with me tuned to 2GB and as I got closer to this tx, all I could hear was Sky Sports Radio – no matter where I tuned on the AM band. Gotta love that splatter!

Next trek will be to go out there again and get photos of the shared 2UE/2SM transmitter tower which is probably a kilometre or so away from 2KY/Sky Sports Radio’s one. Then from there to continue in that direction and take Burroway Rd and head as close as possible to Wentworth Point, which houses the radio 2GB transmitter tower. Unfortunately there’s either a construction site or something involving trucks behind fences there and I doubt I’m gonna be able to get up close to it for a good photo but I’ll do what I can.

I’ve often wondered about writing to Broadcast Australia/TX Australia and mention I’m right into all this stuff and would love to see the equipment that’s housed in a transmitter hut. Viewing and taking photos of the tower is one thing, but it would be awesome to gain permission to enter a hut and get some photos. Anyway, here’s 2KY’s tower in all its glory.

To that end, enjoy this remix of mine of Fat Larry’s Band “Zoom” from 1982 – with a 6.8% increase in pitch, a 17.6% increase in speed, and a new rhythm loop taken from the b-52′s track, “Love Shack”.

I think the combination works well so enjoy!

Adriana Xenides has passed away. I first heard about on 2GB during Jason Morrison’s show, and then googled it where some on twitter are posting about it. 2GB then followed it up with a story on the 6pm news bulletin.

Damnit…she was one of my favourites. RIP Adriana.

Also RIP to the security guard who was shot this morning in Sydney’s CBD while guarding a cash pickup/delivery truck. Absolute bastards. Guy goes to work, and never returns home because of some absolute lunatic.

First up is Angela Bishop. You can’t argue with great legs like these can you? Pity I can’t seem to find any other photos of her showing her hot legs off, they are sensational! These will just have to do for now.

Slash re-records The Triple M Theme

I and so many others love that theme and to hear Slash has re-recorded it has got the word awesome written all over it!

Here at the archive we’ve found a 7″ 45 RPM single recently with which the A-side contained the triple m jocks of ’85 singing “We wish you a merry christmas” altering the title slightly to “mmmerry”, but on the B-side is a 2 minute excerpt of The Triple M Theme, credited to Dr. Dan and being an “excerpt from The Tarot Suite”, released on Mushroom at that point.

So it’s with the greatest of pleasures that I present this B-side to you – and pray I don’t get blasted out of the water by the powers that be at Triple M for doing so! Of course it’s a bit scratchy and toppy at the beginning but evens out as the track progresses. Enjoy!

Copyright on this audio piece remains with The Triple M Broadcasting Co. and any other use including copying is prohibited…but as the D-Generation once wrote on their “Satanic Sketches” CD, “…if you want to come over sometime, we could probably do you a tape”. It’s a little known fact that sometimes I enjoy sitting in front of the computer and spending a couple of hours making my own remixes of songs. Because of various laws in place they’re not quite for distribution, but more for personal listening purposes.

However, I’m getting sick of making all these wonderful remixes, and not having an outlet to put them onto for fear of being shut down. So tonight, come what may.

To that end, I’d love you to take a listen to this – this was edited and remixed in under an hour, and it’s my version of Elton John’s “Kiss the bride”. Many and varied edits in this, but I had a ball cutting it together, and I hope you’ll have just as much fun listening to it.
