It's reset time

G'day bloggers,

Just about time for the next server reset - grab anything you haven't grabbed yet as it'll all be gone to make way for newer material on Thursday September 3rd at 12.01am. Shortly afterwards, a fresh AV update will be in place.

Download away folks!

Congrats to a radio mate of mine

G'day bloggers,

Radioinfo is reporting this today:

"Michael Pachi has left Sky News to join Fairfax Radio's Canberra bureau, replacing Alison Carabine, who moved to Radio National to produce Fran Kelly."

I just wanna say congratulations to Michael - he and I worked together at 2RDJ in the early to late 90's and has now scored himself a gig working within Fairfax Radio's Canberra bureau! Nice one Michael!

B.U.G.A.U.P.

G'day bloggers,

Well, do these letters in the heading of this post mean anything to you? If not, let me explain.

B.U.G.A.U.P. are a group of people who went around in the late 70's and early 80's defacing billboards, under their banner of "Billboard Utilising Graffitists Against Unhealthy Promotions". They crossed my mind earlier today and so I googled the name, and came up with their site here.

I remember seeing lots of their work in and around various train stations in Sydney when I used to go for drives with my dad in 1983, 1984 when I was 10 or 11 years old. I distinctly remember one Winfield billboard which they altered from "Anyhow, have a winfield", to "Man, how I hate Winfield" and the like. Although it was illegal (still is), as I got older I kept seeing them more so at train stations like Sydenham and Ashfield, and they certainly gave me a good laugh!

They came to mind as I crossed Sydenham station not long ago and wondered what happened to the BUGAUP folks. They're still around and have their own website now with a gallery of some of their stuff, and I love these in particular:

I wouldn't mind seeing more of their stuff so if the guys from BUGAUP are reading this, I'd love it if you could add more to your current gallery - as I said, although illegal, it does bring back memories of that time period mentioned above for me. I still remember the how I hate winfield one distinctly!

Thanks and appreciation for the use of these images to:

Franco Cozzo - another version of his TVC surfaces!

G'day bloggers,

On Youtube in the last year or two a Franco Cozzo TVC had surfaced - well two did - one of them was mine (the version with the clipped "comprate da franco co..." ending, courtesy of the DVD recorder I was using at the time) and another was apparently shown on Channel 9 Melbourne last New Year's Eve.

Well, I'm pleased to report I've found another version tonight from a betamax tape! The last version was I think from 1985/1986 - tonight's discovery looks to be earlier...and due to people coming by this site, downloading the videos and re-uploading them to Youtube without credit or acknowledgement, it comes with a watermark.

TVC: Franco Cozzo Furniture - early version
Dur: 60 sec, 4.6 MB

A treat for TV station nightly closedown fans!

G'day bloggers,

Nightly closedown fans, have I got a treat for you - a betamax tape surfaced today with the complete 1984 ABC-TV nightly closedown on it! This one's an interesting one as it seems it was done in the middle of some power dispute or something, as preceding it is an ABC News update with information that power usage is to be kept at an absolute minimum, which then proceeds to tell us that things like TV's are only allowed to be used from 6pm to 8pm the following day! As a result of that, ABC's closedown contains a lineup which details only 2 hours worth of programs!

Dur: 3'41'', MP4 320 x 240, 12.1 MB, Mono

Channel 9 Sydney missing from digital tv set top boxes and tuners

G'day bloggers,

If you've suddenly found Channel 9 Sydney missing from your digital tv set top box, relax, you ain't going crazy - 9 have shifted frequencies in preparation for their new digital channel, "Go!". If you're currently receiving Channel 9 on Channel 350, do a re-scan of channels on your box and it should put all of 9's channels back in their proper positions (9, 90 and 99).

"Go!" starts sunday night august 9th at 6.30pm and at time of writing, a 3 minute loop is in place.

Update: Well the TV guides are out and from all accounts, it's just more of the same from the good ol' Nine Network..Seinfeld (AGAIN!! Bloody hell!), The Nanny, Australia's Funniest Home Video Show, Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie..and all this in the first few days.

Is this really what the new channels will hold from now on? Things that have been on endlessly except stuff in the stations vaults that was transferred some time ago to digital formats and therefore ready for airplay? (leaving things out like residuals etc)..you're kidding. What a con.

Digital Radio

G'day bloggers,

Well as you've probably heard by now, digital radio has finally commenced. Most of Australia's commercial radio stations set up shop in each respective capital city for this morning's launch and judging by this photo, Martin Place (Sydney) was absolutely packed!

At 7.40am up and down the east coast (7.10am in Adelaide), an audio piece was played to launch the beginning of digital radio - and it's with many many thanks, acknowledgment and appreciation to Radioinfo and Commercial Radio Australia, that I now present that audio piece for you to enjoy if you missed it. This is the Sydney version - other versions for each state are also out there.
